Very High PSA Readings

Q.During a recent PSA test my reading was 126 — way out of the ranges for this test.

The doctor did another blood test a week later, and it had lowered to 50, which is still very high.

What would cause such elevated results for this test? What do these high results mean?
The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test was designed to help identify men at risk for prostate cancer.

The test is very specific at measuring PSA, meaning that if the PSA is high, a person is at high risk of having prostate cancer.
