  • Rrescription Drugs and Other Remedies Against Arthritis Pain

A third of all adults experience the pain of arthritis. There are two types of this painful inflammation of the joints known as arthritis that we can suffer from, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

The breakdown of cartilage in your joints is known as osteoarthritis. It will normally affect your fingers, wrists, or knees. Rheumatoid arthritis affects not only the joints, but other parts of the body as well, such as the blood, lungs, and heart. You might suffer from this type of arthritis if pain is felt in your wrists or both of your knees. It is a painful and distressing illness that can affect every aspect of our lives, causing depression and making our lives miserable during work and leisure hours. Since there is no cure, all we can do is try to relieve the symptoms.

To treat arthritis, there are drugs available. Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin and other over-the-counter remedies are available for us to use, but they must be used with care because using too much of them or using them for too long can cause damage to the liver and other organs.

There is constant development in the world of prescription drugs. Celebrex, Ibuprofen, Meloxicam, or Naxopren are anti-inflammatory medications that can be prescribed by your physician. It is hoped that researchers will soon develop a safer and more successful medicine for this grave health issue.

Medications that are applied directly to the painful area, such as ointments like BenGay, are referred to as topical remedies. You will get relief with almost no side effects. Shots of steroids are commonly injected into affected joints. This is both painful and temporary in its effect.

It is important to play an active role in the effort to find relief from the pain of arthritis. Although medicines can be of benefit, it is also essential to apply our own energies in order to improve how we feel.

Since there is a link between obesity and arthritis, it is helpful to do gentle exercise that does not strain the joints. This helps to control weight and keep the body healthy. Your arthritis will be more controlled if you begin a yoga class, do exercises in stretching, or go walking, and are persistent. Be cautious about the humidity when you employ swimming to assist with the joints.

Studies show that food and arthritis are related. Those who include a lot of fruits and vegetables in their diet report improvement, plus you need to cut down on fats and sugar. When treating arthritis patients, physicians frequently monitor their levels of cholesterol and sugar. You also want to drink a lot of water as it helps cleanse the toxins from our body and keeps us healthy.

Taking hot baths is one of the more popular and effective remedies for alleviating the pain of arthritis. Since arthritis pain is at its worst when we are inactive or sleeping, these baths are most effective when taken just before going to bed. You can bathe with just water, with bubble bath, or with joint soothing Epsom salts. Adding eucalyptus leaves or mud is very popular. It is essential to remain submerged in this hot bath for a half hour’s time to let the muscles relax.

Extremely popular and very helpful are sunbaths and saunas. While sauna baths can relieve the pain and stiffness, they can cause problems for blood pressure so use them with caution. And whenever you are exposed to the sun, be sure to use sunscreen.

Taking high doses of Vitamin C (be sure to follow the instructions on the label or take as prescribed by your doctor) is a common remedy used by arthritis sufferers, and many claim that it works. Vitamin C can be used to help your immune system and protect yourself against illnesses.

Alternative medicine also offers some remedies to relieve the pain of arthritis, including homeopathy, herbs, aromatherapy or acupuncture. Each person should use any reasonable remedy available to alleviate their pain, but since the results of those kinds of treatments are not guaranteed, it is important to research them and get advice before trying them.

From the spectrum of herbal relief, you may opt to try lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus, juniper or a number of others. It is best to combine them with oils and form a compress to place on the painful region.

Some beverages are also said to relieve the pain of arthritis, such as the juice of an orange mixed with cod liver oil, or cranberry juice, or the juice of a lemon taken three times per day. Eating a lot of fruits and veggies will help.

It is our fervent hope that before long the perfect medication will be developed to relieve arthritis pain. A definitive cure would be even better. Until that day arrives, we will continue to try any safe remedies available, because living with pain often makes it seem as if life is not worth living.
